writing

In Te Ngahere we’ve been doing more writing.
Like all the other writing we’ve been doing, we had to make up our stories but it has to be from a picture, THAT THE TEACHERS SELECTED for us to do.
I love writing so much because in conferences people can give me feedback to improve my writing skills and I also like it because I love expressing my imagination to other people.
I didn’t really enjoy the part where I misunderstood the story beats because I thought that was the way we actually needed to write the story.
Also, Sadly I didn’t do very well in making sure it makes sense.
Here’s the picture I wrote about.

cultural fest

On Monday my school’s kapa haka group went to the Kaikohe Cultural festivaL.
My learning was to stay strong, pukana, do awesome actions and make my mum proud.
I think I passed those because I stood my ground strong and proud, I did pukana the whole way, I did the actions properly and I know I made my mum proud because she came to me crying in delight.
I really enjoyed the part where I found my mum crying in delight, not just because I felt good in myself, also because I made her see that my love for her is unbreakable.
What I didn’t really enjoy though was knowing that we couldn’t watch the other schools, I know we watched them on Tuesday but I had high expectations that they would’ve done better. Because on Tuesday it was the practise rounds, so they wouldn’t of went that hard, but I know they would’ve done their all on the actual festival.
Here’s the performance if you want to watch it

I also made some mistakes along the way like at the end when we took a knee I nearly fell.

copy right

This week in Te Ngahere we’ve been learning how to get pictures without breaking the copy right rule. We had to get the license, the author and the name of the picture.
This is a very good thing to learn about because it helped me understand copy right.
I enjoyed it because I want to use images but since its someone elses I didn’t wanna make people think it was mine.
But the hard thing was finding the license because it says License everywhere in the place you got it from and you don’t know which one it really is.
you also don’t want to copy someone’s work follow these orders:

cross country

on Friday the whole School was participating in a very special event that we do every year, CROSS COUNTRY.
Cross Country was very fun this year because sometimes when I did cross country it was muddy and wet but this time it wasn’t, SOOOO I could try my absolute best.
What I didn’t enjoy though was knowing it was my final year because I’m year 8, BUT at the same time, I’m kind of happy that I don’t have to do it again because I don’t have to trip over all the long grass that the Hill has. I also did good at running. The reason I’m informing you this is because in the past I didn’t even run sometimes, but this time I did. Probably just because I was more confident and I had no jersey on. Sadly I lost a lot of my breath at the finish line because I raced all the way to it without even breathing. Well that’s the end of the Paihia School cross country for me, hopefully I do more in College. Also no doubt that College cross country is more challenging then Primary.

bay of islands college

last week the year 8’s went on a trip to Bay of Islands College.
I couldn’t wait to go there because I was thinking of how much fun I would have.
What I enjoyed about Bay was when I got there was everyone was being friendly and all the classes we attended were very cool, the subject I liked the most was probably Digital Drawing because it is like a free for all class where you make drawings out of pixels and you can make whatever you want.
What I didn’t enjoy though was my brother Charlie not being there because I was looking forward to having a good day with him but he wasn’t there because my little brother was having surgery.
I did well on all the subjects we did on the orientation day but with a little bit of help, especially wood work because I’m not very good at that.

science

In Te Ngahere we’ve been presenting our science project information to the whole school on a board. The way we had to do this was we had to make a presentation.
Print the slides (that had the information).
Finally glue all those printed information onto the board.
This was really challenging because we just finished our presentation on the day before the science fair and luckily received the board.
On the next day we finally finished the board and placed it into the whare where all the other completed boards were.
On the last bit of the day all the classes came to see the boards.
What I enjoyed about this was we were able to maybe give the juniors some ideas about what they could make when they come into our class. What I didn’t enjoy was getting sore legs and only having adults come over. To fix this we should’ve brought our remote control car earlier because that is mostly the only thing that attracted the little kids.
